My fees are paid by every
Medical Insurance Scheme except BUPA, which has an ageist policy and
refuses to pay for any consultant over seventy years of age,
regardless of professional eminence.
When making enquiries to your
medical insurer before a consultation it should be stated that my
entry in the Medical Register is "H M Brown, registration number
0102548".
It is difficult to estimate
fees because they depend so much on the amount of time required to
sort out the problem, plus any necessary tests. The first
consultation will last for at least an hour, often more, and will
cost a minimum of £150, plus any essential tests. Further visits, if
required, will take less time and cost less. These fees are
comparable with those charged by solicitors or chartered
accountants.
The objectives of an allergy consultation are to identify the cause
of the problem, assess its severity and impact on the quality of
life, and to ensure that the most up-to-date treatments are being
used in the most effective manner.
Patients always receive a copy of my report, as well
as the family
doctor, because this prevents any misunderstandings, encourages
compliance with my suggestions, reassures the patient, and provides
a back-up against loss of medical records.
